“Style Is Eternal”

By | Fashion | No Comments

“Hello, my name is Ian Mussilli. I am fashion blogger, consultant and a personal stylist who deals with all things men’s wear. I also enjoy traveling and swimming.”

“I first met Shiyenze at an event. I had been following her work and seeing all the amazing and unique designs that she created – and all the positive feedback she had been getting from her pieces – I immediately knew that I had to work with her. As a stylist I believe in diversity and cultural appreciation in that we should not just buy and wear designs from foreign countries but also include the rich mixture of African culture in our wardrobe. #VaaShiyenze!”

“Believe it or not, I had never owned any African pieces in my collection, but after seeing what Shiyenze creates, I knew I had to get a few for my self. This shirt is a first! Thanks to Shiyenze! What I love most about it is the fitting. If you want to look good, get a perfect fit that suits you. A perfect fit of any piece of cloth is undoubtedly one of the most important factors to consider in stylying – and Shiyenze definitely got it right with this shirt. Colours inspire happiness! The colours and prints on this shirt are bold and strong! I like how the boldness is not too bright as to steal the attention away from the rest of the outfit which is something that really impresses me as well.”

“I also loved the location of the shoot – Juniper’s Kitchen located along Muthangari drive in Westlands. The ambiance is really chilled out plus it had rained the previous night making the atmosphere all so cool (but a bit chilly as well…haha). Shiyenze’s creative team also made it very easy to work with. From Maluki’s directing skills to Kuyoh’s photography, epic! Everything flowed seamlessly. I loved it!”

“It was an honour being featured as part of the #40Days40Personalities campaign and I can’t wait to work with Shiyenze and her team again and again!” – Ian Mussilli.

Every individual carries his or her own personality. Ian Mussilli has one of the most unique personalities I have encountered. He has the ability to blend in with all people and in all situations. I have always know him to be a suit stylist more that any other outfits. You should have seen the look on his face when he first tried out this shirt; he loved it, he almost walked out of the workshop with it! You must agree with me, this guy looks so adorable! The thing is, you don’t always have to stick to your usual. Go out of your way today and try out something new! It could be a new restaurant, or a new pen, or even a new dress code! At the end of the day, look back and be proud of yourself for trying out something new!
A luta Continua!

The Teenage Dream…

By | Fashion | No Comments

“Hi, my name is Bernadette Itambo and I am a teenage model. I love art, I enjoy art, drink, eat, walk, talk art!! Art is life to me. My hobbies are drawing, designing and dancing.”

“Last April, I participated in the Little Miss World Kenya contest. I had Shiyenze design my outfits for every category: Dinner, African, Talent and Casual. I felt good having her on my team. This definitely contributed to my outstanding performance and confidence all through the pageant.”

“Growing up under the same roof with my elder sister Shiyenze always prompted me to lean towards fashion and design. One day, the opportunity to design a dress presented itself. I designed this African dress myself. I wanted something long and traditional. Just like the way Ugandan woman dress. The traditional style appealed to me so much so I took it up… I just love the grace that comes with this outfit!”

“I have known Shiyenze all my life (literally!) but working with her on a professional level like this was a whole different experience for me. Being sisters, I expected minute sibling arguments to crop up during shoots or a bit of favoritism on my side because, hey, we’re sisters! Hehehe! On the contrary, Shiyenze handled me with a lot of professionalism. Most people would not even guess we are related! She treated me like she would with any other partner. I appreciate how she listens to my suggestions and directs me where needed because I evidently still have lots to learn. At the end of the day, she is super creative and artistic. I enjoy every minute working with.”

“The photo shoot was very enjoyable! The shoes were fantastic, the team was very kind; I had a great time.” – Bernadette

“… the shoes are fantastic…”

Teenagers are quite daring, bold and may often not be as easy to work with. However, my experiences with Bernadette have been almost too good! Having to watch her grow into an amazing model has been a wowing experience for me! Her personality and creativity cause me to look forward to working with her and through her, tell more stories. She is an inspiration!

It’s always an honor to work with an artist. Given that every artist has a pool of ideas, it’s always a challenging experience allowing oneself to be guided. Every artist out there will surely understand what I mean! Have a creative day ahead, won’t you?

All About Victoria’s Secret!

By | Fashion | No Comments

She is a star in her own rights. With a circle of influence that supersedes your regular student leader. She is VICTORIA N. MBUGUA.

“What’s up! My name is Victoria! I am the former Vice-Chair and Secretary-General in the student government of USIU-Africa. I am also the former nominee for the most influential student leader in Kenya. I love adventure! This includes going for water rafting and bungee jumping. Talk about being an adrenaline junkie, huh, that’s me!”

“Since becoming a student leader, I remember there was one time when I had been invited for an official conference. I knew straight on that I needed to look great and fabulous. So I immediately called Shiyenze and placed an order for some skirts! I was convinced beyond a shadow of doubt that she was the right person to run to because she never disappoints! I knew I could really count on her to deliver even with the short notice. Believe it or not, she delivered the skirts right on time and at a very affordable price! I rocked my Shiyenze skirts with confidence and boldness because that’s what Shiyenze represents. A few weeks later, it was time for the inaugural USIU-Africa Culture Week. Again I approached Shiyenze and placed yet another order. However, this time around I needed a male designer shirt for a friend. I was shocked to find out that she had not done any men’s wear before and that this was going to be a first for her. I knew I could trust her because she is ever pushing herself to deliver beyond her customers’ expectations.

Oh my, I love my KASEO COAT (cape coat)!! I love it! I love it! I love it! The design and style is simple exquisite! You see, I make a lot of orders off Shiyenze Fashion. And by now Shiyenze knows I am a sucker for bold prints and that’s exactly what she offers. The Shiyenze clothing line is known for its high quality fabrics that never fade off, perfectly made fit to measure outfits and the affordable rates. Given the fact that Shiyenze Fashion has such a bright future ahead, she is making major strides in the fashion industry. Shiyenze is a practical role model to all the people who have visions and want to pursue them. She has proven that it can be done! Every time I meet her, she is always talking about what’s next for her fashion line, who she wants to meet & work with, which events she wants to attend, and how she plans to promote her brand? I mean, the list is endless. I cant wait to see how far this brand will go. Shiyenze, keep the wheel moving! ‎

The location of the photo shoot…oh my! Kilimanjaro Jamia Hotel was the best setting for this photo shoot! This place is exquisite. Yes I am a foodie, but I am also very social. And this venue creates the perfect ambience for social interactions. I loved working with Shiyenze’s team of creatives, stylists, photographers and set designers. They were very professional, friendly and showed me how to pose (I think I should do more of this)…hehehe! Generally they were very creative and knew exactly what they wanted. A big shout out to Joel Maluki for the creative directing. And with that, I raise a glass to Shiyenze Fashion.”

Victoria N. Mbugua is a great leader in our society and also my very good friend.‎ I met Victoria through her boyfriend; she wanted me to help select a surprise gift for him. I think if i was not a fashion designer i would be gift selector…Lol.‎ You see, art is all up in the detail and that drives me. I was amazed at how detailed Victoria wanted the shirt and that’s how i won her heart by delivering the exact details for her boyfriend.‎ All in all, it has been an amazing journey with this great!

Victoria loves bold colors and she is quite daring in her selection. ‎During her tenure in student leadership, I enjoyed dressing her for numerous significant events and occasions. As opposed to her personality, she is not all over the moon about print material. However, I managed to understand her ideas and alas, the signature ‎KASEO COAT.

Working with Victoria for this particular project has been nothing short of awesome! I enjoyed every bit of it. Her personality is to die for. At some point I actually thought she should pursue a career in modelling. She would be fantastic! Ama vipi? Leadership is not just about great speeches and leading a revolution, it’s also about looking great. It only acts as a compliment to greatness. Don’t you agree??? Hehehe! Now back to Victoria, on the day of the shoot, we had an option of getting her to wear a white fitting dress or the black top & pants as seen in the pictures. Either way, the KASEO COAT would still be perfect with a fitting dress of a strong bold colors. If you are smart about color blocking, try to KASEO COAT on a hot pink dress and tell me what you think.

Special thanks to BackYard Shoes . You guys have the best shoes in town!

Ola EZIL!! Happy Birthday!

By | Fashion | No Comments

“Hi, My name Ezil, a creative fashion blogger who believes that there are no limits in life. My blog is a space where I share my style with the hope of inspiring women to be the best they can possibly be.”

“Funny thing is I can’t quite remember how Shiyenze and i met, all I remember is that there was this girl who was always happy to see me and seemed to have so much faith in me. With time I got to know her and I just love how she expresses herself through her art, from her everyday style to her designs.

As a fashion blogger one thing I can tell you for sure is that there are really no rules to fashion. However, your dressing speaks volumes about who you are. This ROSA dress from Shiyenze not only brings out my femininity but the print and color selection brings out my joyful bubbly personality. As a young creative I absolutely adore the keen attention to detail and the beautiful print selections one finds at Shiyenze. Its definitely a collection I would recommend.

It is an honor to be a part of the 40 Days 40 Personalities campaign, and really humbling to have my profile put up on my birthday (although I pretty much insisted) I like how she selected urban eatery as my shooting location, seriously this lady gets me.

Ezil’s work is truly inspiring, her physique attitude and combination of personality that she oozes. I knew definitely we would definitely work together. I met her online first and when we met in person she was even more amazing. ROSA Dress was one of my pieces for my maiden collection. Its a chic outfit, that also informed my selection of venue.

Her shoot was really entertaining, enjoy the story.

Also check out her blog on http://www.stylewithezil.com/ to see more of her great work!

A singing group with a special eye for fashion and style. The group is made up of Anne Njuguna , MaureenOgango and Joylindsie Nyika. Stunning ladies with sultry voices and beautiful smiles.‎

You see, unity in a team is everything. Especially for a singing group like The Voices of Light. It begins offstage and is perfected on stage. At times the colors, fits and style says it all. I have had the privilege of working with these beautiful girls for the last 6 years. Way before the inception of Shiyenze Fashion. They embraced my crazy ideas and encouraged me to start Shiyenze Fashion. Six years later, the journey continues. ‎

This look was a special choice for both the team and I.‎ We wanted something away from the bold African prints but a more modern classy look that would fit in all occasions. That’s why we settled on the BARAKA Skirts. Sometimes, being a fashion designer means incorporating your clients ideas with your expertise to create something unique. This has helped me all the time. I meet all sorts of people with all sorts of ideas and suggestions. And with a warm heart I welcome them and work at creating a cutting edge look. “Your dreams are valid.” – Lupita Nyong’o. Share your ideas and let us make it happen! Now back to Voices Of Light. ‎
Enjoy the look, won’t you! :)‎

“Our experience with Shiyenze was amazing because it taught us to be open to new ideas while incorporating ours.‎ For some of us we had to put aside ignorance, fear and self will in order to embrace glamour, style and fashion. Simply because that’s Shiyenze for us! ‎Her team made us feel very comfortable all through the experience. Our most ideal moment was when we got to see our inner beauty revealed on the outside after the beautiful make up and styling was done. Talking about the make up, we all love this great work of art. The way it blended with our skin tones and brought out the best in us is simply amazing! The professionalism and expertise is truly commendable. Big up to JOY MARINGA…tushakubook (We have already booked you) for our weddings…hehehe!‎

“Hi, my name is Chelsea Tumbu Blessing and I am 2 years old. I love watching cartoons (especially Johny Johny….yes papa), reading story books, dancing and playing with phones.” – Chelsea (pictured)

“My first African dress was from Shiyenze. My father bought it for me as a Christmas gift. I always love how I look. This TOTO dress is my favorite dress. When I grow up, I want to be like Shiyenze! She is beautiful” – Chelsea

Kids are a blessing from God. When Jesus said, ‘let the little children come unto me’, they probably wore a Shiyenze…(Hahaha)‎

Working with Baby Chelsea was one of my most exciting experiences on this project. I met her through her father who was jazzed by our TOTO collection and quickly proceeded to place an order for his precious jewel, Chelsea. He tells me how Chelsea loved her Christmas gift so much that she never changed to her night dress that night. She slept in her Shiyenze dress. 🙂 How lovely!

Chelsea’s photo shoot was amazing! Many photographers usually find it hard to get a baby to cooperate during a shoot but interestingly, KUYOH The Photographer had an easy time with Chelsea. She has a very vibrant, energetic and easy going personality that compliments her free spirit. She clearly loves dancing and playing games on the phone. This happened severally while on set and later, she began giving us some dancing lessons.

Any fashion designer will tell you how great of an experience it is designing for kids. Despite the pressure of making the parents smile, your mind is also thinking of how to make this child a star in your own design. My experience with kids has been a great one! I am always anxious whenever I receive a TOTO order. For me, it’s not just an outfit, but an opportunity to touch a child’s life in the best way I know how, Shiyenze Fashion!

He is a South African Kenyan- based fashion stylist.

He has a big passion for travel and great African fashion.

He is an event organiser, a poet and a voice over artist.

He has done television shows and has even featured in international documentaries.

He is Theo Okello Mbongwa.

“‎I met Shiyenze through a mutual friend. I had escorted my friend to do  fittings at Shiyenze Fashion studios when my experience with the great Shiyenze began. I was really impressed by the detailed work and her keen selection prints. I have particularly never been a huge fan of prints but this really caught my eye; Swahili Kaftan. I bought it immediately and even wore it before I left her workshop! Ever since that day, I am an ardent fan of Shiyenze outfits. I like the way she tells her story through her artwork.

When she asked me to participate in her project I was deeply excited and it didn’t even take me a minute to choose a site for the shoot. I chose an outdoor venue, and mostly a national park, because it shows the beauty of Kenya and the brand. Enjoy the look.” – Theo Mbogwa
